About The 100

About Us

The 100 Black Men of Long Island, Inc. seeks to serve as a beacon of leadership by utilizing our diverse talents to create an
environment where our children are motivated to achieve and to empower our people to become self-sufficient shareholders in the economic and social fabric of the communities we serve.

For more than four decades, 100 Black Men chapters around the globe have touched the lives of more than 500,000 young people. Through the 100’s 4 For The Future: Mentoring, Education, Health and Wellness and Economic Development programs, young people are given a competitive edge.

With a mission to improve the quality of life of our citizens and enhance educational opportunities for African- Americans, our members continue to serve as a strong force for overcoming cultural and financial obstacles, the achievements of African-American youth, emphasizing young African-American males.

As a part of the 100 Black Men of America’s “4 For The Future Initiative” Economic Development, Education, Health & Wellness and Mentoring, the Long Island Chapter is engaged in a targeted effort to provide holistic support for youth we serve.

We hope to improve the chances of success for young Black Men by encouraging them towards success in the educational process, sharing with them our collective life's experience, imparting to them a system of values and ethics, and exposing them to the world beyond their immediate communities.

However, the idea of 100 Black Men was born in New York City in 1963 when a body of successful men from the fields of business, industry, public affairs, government and the professions decided to pool their skills, experiences and resources to improve the quality of life for Blacks and other minorities. Among those early founders were David Dinkins, Livingston Wingate, and Andrew
Hatcher.

100 Black Men of Long Island continues to demonstrate its commitment to our community and youth by providing scholarships to students who are actively pursuing college degrees. We have awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to some of Long Island's brightest students.
